WHAT IS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT?

A landscape architect is someone who works in the landscape industry, but has a different role than a landscape contractor. Landscape architects help to create new residential or commercial projects. We may also renovate or help to maintain existing projects while meeting the customer's exact needs and specifications.

As a landscape architect, we have the opportunity to make suggestions and provide guidance into how paths and roadways should be laid out, where buildings should be located on the site, how drainage is to properly flow, where to locate utility lines, irrigate plant material, locate decorative outdoor lighting and layout planting. A good landscape architect can balance all of these design considerations while picking the perfect locations for patios, retaining walls, driveways, pool houses, pools, decks and screen porches.

In addition, we will consider and give recommendations regarding to which plant types and sizes would be best for the area in which the project is located. These plant recommendations take into account, the climate zones, sun orientation, soil hydrology, soil types and mature plant sizes.

Landscape architects also work with people who already have landscapes, homes, or buildings. We design small additions to existing buildings, changes to mature landscapes, design considerations affecting the physically handicapped and numerous other important circumstances.

We are available to provide assistance with any landscape or construction project, no matter how big or how small it may seem to be. Only a landscape architect specializes in creating the perfect relationship between Mother Nature and mankind's built environment. We are able to do this in a holistic manner that balances science, safety, art and current construction codes and standards.
